Neoprene vs. Canvas: Which Material Is Right For Me?

Choosing between Neoprene and Canvas usually comes down to one question: Do you want your car to feel like a comfortable lounge or a rugged workstation?

Here is a quick breakdown to help you decide.

Neoprene: The Sporty All-Rounder

Neoprene is the similar material used in wetsuits. It’s soft, stretchy, and offers a "glove-like" fit that mimics your original upholstery.

  • Best For: Daily drivers, families (with kids), pet owners, beach-goers, etc.

  • The Vibe: Sleek, modern, tight fit and very comfortable.

  • Pros:

    • Comfort: High-density backing makes long drives easier.

    • Fit: It contours perfectly to the seat without bunching.

    • Temperature: Doesn't get burning hot in summer or freezing in winter.

  • Cons: Not as "bomb-proof" as canvas but can last up to 10 years for normal everyday use if properly maintained.

Canvas: The Heavy-Duty Protector

Canvas is a high-density, woven fabric built for maximum punishment. If you treat your vehicle like a tool, this is your material.

  • Best For: Tradies, off-roaders, pet owners (with big dogs), and agriculture.

  • The Vibe: Rugged, utilitarian, and stiff.

  • Pros:

    • Durability: Extremely resistant to tearing, scuffing, and punctures.

    • Cleanability: Mud and dirt usually brush right off once dry.

    • Longevity: Can last beyond a decade even under harsh conditions.

  • Cons:  not as form-fitting as neoprene

Safety & Compliance

Certified Airbag Protection

As Supertrim has a long history of manufacturing OEM seat covers for car companies in Australia, our airbag-safe seat covers feature specialized airbag seams designed to burst instantly upon airbag deployment. Our seams have undergone rigorous impact testing and certification by APV-T, one of Australia's premier crash-safety testing centres, ensuring your factory safety systems function perfectly.

How to install seat covers correctly? For maximum safety, you must align the "airbag" tag/seam on the cover precisely with the deployment point on your seat. For a perfect fit, follow the included manual or view our Video Fitting Guide for a visual walkthrough.

Can I still use ISOFIX and anchor points? Yes. Supertrim seat covers are designed with dedicated access points for ISOFIX and child seat anchors, allowing you to secure your child’s car seat safely without removing the covers.

Care & Maintenance

Cleaning Instructions

To keep your Supertrim covers in peak condition, follow these material-specific guidelines:

  • Neoprene: Simply wipe with a damp cloth for light cleaning. For stubborn marks, use a mixture of mild soap and water. It is machine washable but hand wash is highly recommended for longevity. Avoid machine washing or aggressive chemical cleaners, as these can degrade the fabric. Hang out to dry (no tumble dry).

  • Canvas: Use a soft-bristled brush and mild detergent to spot-clean dirty areas. Do not machine wash or tumble dry, as high heat and agitation can damage the structural integrity of the canvas.

Recommended Schedule

We suggest a deep clean every few months, though you may need to do this more frequently if you’re dealing with heavy mud or frequent spills.

Pro Tip: Give your covers a quick vacuum semi-regularly. Focus on the seams, crevices, and the inside of storage pockets to prevent abrasive grit from building up.
